As expected, on Tuesday, Micromax has launched its Canvas Spark smartphone. The smartphone has been launched in collaboration with e-tailer Snapdeal, which will be sold for Rs.4,999 in a flash sale format similar to brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo and Micromax owned Yu. Registrations for the phone commence 12PM 22 April onwards.
"Around 70mn Indians are upgrading to smartphone annually driven by the need to get connected to mobile internet. If we look at the current scenario, only 2mn smartphones sold monthly are under Rs.5,000 vs. over 10mn feature phones which presents a huge opportunity to upgrade through a new offering. Today's launch reaffirms our commitment to make technology accessible for everyone, and introducing more people to the best of the connected world," said Micromax CEO Vineet Taneja.
The phone flaunts a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 960x540 pixels reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz from Mediatek, 1GB RAM and a 8-megapixel camera on the back with a Largan lens and there's also a 2-megapixel camera for selfies. Notably, it is also one the first Micromax smartphones that will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
The phone also has 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. The phone will be available in white and gold and silver and grey.
"Mobile is driving and will continue to drive the next wave of digital commerce growth in the country. The availability of affordable smartphones is one of the key factors fuelling this growth. With their range of affordable power packed smartphones, Micromax has emerged as a leader in this product segment. Our partnership with Micromax has been long standing and we are excited to be partnering with them on the launch of their latest offering.
